Why Doesn't UPS Tracking work?

If you have shipped a package through UPS and want to track its location, but UPS tracking does not work? No need to worry.

In this article, we will crack down on some common reasons why UPS might not work and how you can fix it.

Why is UPS tracking not working?

If your UPS tracking number is not working, there will be some general reasons.  May the package have not been scanned yet, or the tracking number you entered may be incorrect. Furthermore, there might be technical issues with UPS’s tracking portal or system.

Here are some ways to troubleshoot your problem.

The package has not been scanned yet

When packages move through the shipping process, they are scanned at different locations. If your package has not been scanned yet, tracking will not show updates.

  • If you drop a package off the day before a government holiday, the tracking number may not be available.
  • Wait for 24 hours if your tracking number is still invalid after 24 hours. Contact customer service at 1-888-742-5877 or message at customer support system.

The tracking number was entered incorrectly

Sometimes, the tracking number you entered might be wrong or mistaken. A misplaced, skipped or additional number will cause an invalid tracking number. Double-check to make sure it's correct.

  • Suppose the tracking number is displayed as invalid. In that case, it will appear in a bold red letter: “Please correct the following errors. The tracking number you entered is not valid. Please review or contact the sender to check the number”.
  • If you entered your tracking number correctly and are still unable to trackit, contact UPS customer services at 1-888-742-5877 or message the Customer Support system.

It might be a technical issue

If there is a technical issue in the UPS website or app, it also causes tracking to stop working. If the system is down or there is any glitch, you might not be able to track your package.

  • Wait a few hours,  refresh the websites and try again.
  • If you still face the problem, Contact customer services at 1-888-742-5877 or message the Customer Support system.

What does a UPS tracking number look like?

A UPS tracking number is typically an 18-digit alphanumeric code on your receipt or email.

  • Usually, start with 1Z
  • A 6-digit shipping number
  • A 2-digit service indicators
  • An 8-digit identification number

For some shipments like international packages, the tracking number might have 7 or 20 digits instead.

Understanding these common reasons will help you know why UPS tracking may have delays or problems. It is common for monitoring data to update slowly or for little mistakes to happen. Save unnecessary worry and confusion by remaining informed about possible causes.

If necessary, you can also call customer service on 1-888-742-5877  for any query or troubleshoot your problem calmly with this knowledge.
